  • Inner Dialogues of the Culturally Embedded Teacher: Cultural Identity Affirmation, Spiritual Meaning-Making, and Metacognitive Cultural Intelligence as Resilience Resources, Interpreted Through an Imagined-Interaction Lens

    将文化身份与元认知文化智能列为教师韧性资源,拓展职业倦怠干预思路。

This study uses imagined-interaction theory as an interpretive lens for understanding three psychological resources that may be associated with teacher resilience and well-being: cultural identity affirmation, daily spiritual experience, and metacognitive cultural intelligence. We are explicit that imagined interactions themselves were not measured; the tradition instead supplies a vocabulary for interpreting why these culturally situated resources matter for occupational adaptation. A cross-sectional survey of 312 in-service Indian school teachers was analysed using structural equation modelling and conditional process analysis. Cultural identity and spirituality predicted resilience; metacognitive cultural intelligence predicted well-being; and a three-way interaction indicated that teachers high on all three resources reported the strongest resilience. Spirituality partially mediated the identity–resilience path, and cultural intelligence moderated the indirect effect of identity on well-being. We interpret these associations cautiously, as consistent with a view of resilient teaching as a narrative and imaginal accomplishment, not only a behavioural one.

  • When Does Empathy Relate to Emotional Distress? The Moderating Roles of Emotion Regulation and Self-Other Boundaries

    厘清共情致困的调节条件,帮助临床区分共情的保护性与耗竭性作用。

Empathy is widely regarded as a social asset, yet it may also confer emotional risk. This study examines when empathy becomes maladaptive by testing the moderating roles of emotion regulation and self–other boundaries. In a sample of 205 adults (61% female; M age = 25.01, SD = 8.92), participants completed measures of affective and cognitive empathy, emotion regulation, self–other boundary protection, and emotional distress (depression, anxiety, stress). Affective empathy was positively associated with all distress outcomes, except for depression, whereas cognitive empathy showed no direct effects. Moderation analyses (PROCESS Model 1) indicated a significant interaction between cognitive empathy and emotion suppression, such that cognitive empathy was positively associated with distress at higher levels of suppression but not at lower levels. In addition, self–other boundary difficulties significantly moderated the association between affective empathy and distress, with the positive relationship weakening or reversing as boundary protection increased. These findings challenge uniformly positive views of empathy, demonstrating that its psychological consequences depend on regulatory processes and the capacity to maintain self–other differentiation.

  • Differential Indirect Associations of Desire Thinking Components Linking Distress Tolerance and Experiential Avoidance With Problematic Social Media Use: A Parallel-Pathway Analysis Within the I-PACE Framework

    在I-PACE框架内拆解问题性社媒使用的间接路径,细化过程性干预靶点。

Problematic social media use (PSMU) has been conceptualized within process-based models linking individual vulnerabilities to affective-cognitive processes. This cross-sectional study examined whether verbal perseveration and imaginal prefiguration differentially characterized the indirect associations of distress tolerance and experiential avoidance with PSMU. A sample of 388 university students (66.2% women; M = 25.61 years) completed self-report measures. Parallel indirect associations were tested using PROCESS Model 4 with 5,000 bias-corrected bootstrap resamples. Distress tolerance was negatively, and experiential avoidance positively, associated with PSMU. Verbal perseveration showed a stronger unique association with PSMU (β = .373, p < .001), whereas imaginal prefiguration was not statistically supported (β = .057, p = .320). Indirect associations through verbal perseveration were supported for distress tolerance (estimate = −.080, 95% CI [−.127, −.036]) and experiential avoidance (estimate = .081, 95% CI [.028, .143]); corresponding pathways through imaginal prefiguration were not supported. Contrast analyses supported stronger indirect associations through verbal perseveration. These findings indicate differential statistical relevance across desire-thinking components without establishing causal mediation.

  • Space is Never Neutral: Black Womxn’s Narratives of Space, Identity, and Meanings of Safety

    把空间视为结构性暴力的载体,为创伤评估提供超越个体归因的视角。

In the United States, Black womxn’s well-being is profoundly shaped by spatial, structural, and cultural forces that often render them invisible or disposable. Rooted in structural racism and coloniality, these forces produce overlapping forms of violence that compound and exacerbate their mental health outcomes. In this narrative study, the authors draw on intersectionality theory and Black geography theory to explore the overlapping contexts through which Black womxn move (i.e., physical, social, and symbolic spaces) and how this shapes their overall well-being. Through qualitative interviews with 14 Black womxn of diverse ethnicities, sexualities, and gender expressions, the authors examine how participants interpret and negotiate safety across varying social environments. The authors identified six themes: (a) Geography as a Determinant of Safety; (b) Belonging as a Condition for Safety; (c) Affinity Spaces as Sites of Protection; (d) Whiteness as a Marker of Spatial Unsafety; (e) Hypervigilance as a Survival Strategy; and (f) Negotiating Safety Through Femininity. Overall, findings highlight the political and historical dimensions of safety and the implications of empowering Black womxn and prioritizing their safety.

  • “Most Times I Stay Awake Having a Lot of Things on My Mind”: Migration, Masculinity, and Self-Care Among African Men in the United States

    揭示移民语境下男子气概如何塑造自我关怀,提示文化适配的干预方向。

This study examines how African men living in the United States understand and practice self-care, and how migration recasts their orientations to health and wellness. Drawing on in-depth interviews with 16 African immigrant men aged 23–41, the study employs thematic analysis to map both the strategies through which participants “take care of themselves” and the migration-driven conditions that reconfigure their attitudes and approaches to wellness. The findings of the study reveal that self-care strategies of African men cluster around three core themes: physical and bodily care; leisure, social connection, and spirituality; and financial security and independence. Migration further reconfigures their health orientations through preventive vigilance, changes in social and structural infrastructure, emotional recalibration, and shifting spatial and urban rhythms. The study advances an African-centered account of men’s health in the United States and substantiates the need for interventions grounded in African men’s own repertoires of care, with implications for research, community-based support, and the field of Black psychology.

  • Don’t Just Do Something, Sit There! Decisiveness as a Product of Mindfulness and Acceptance Traits

    把果断决策与接纳、后悔敏感度联系起来,补充决策研究的体验维度。

Decisiveness, the capacity to commit to difficult choices, has traditionally been studied through cognitive and motivational frameworks, leaving the role of one's relationship to inner experience open. Two studies examine dispositional mindfulness, acceptance, and regret sensitivity as predictors of decisiveness. In Study 1 ( n = 64), all three significantly predicted decisiveness. In Study 2 ( n = 49), regret sensitivity and mindfulness remained significant, though acceptance's association attenuated, coinciding with a stronger acceptance-mindfulness correlation. Across both studies, regret sensitivity was the strongest and most consistent predictor ( β = −.31 in Study 1 and −.50 in Study 2), suggesting that an unwillingness to accept the irreversibility of past choices may undermine confident commitment to future ones. Mindfulness and acceptance predicted decisiveness independently of their association with regret. These findings extend decision avoidance research beyond cognitive and affective accounts, positioning decisiveness as an expression of practical wisdom within a broader psychology of character.

  • Toward a Black Feminist Framework of Perinatal Mental Health

    指出主流围产期框架的白人中产预设,为差异化临床路径提供理论依据。

Perinatal mental health is a vital yet understudied dimension of maternal health disparities, particularly for Black women who experience disproportionate rates of depression, anxiety, and distress during pregnancy and following pregnancy loss. Traditional biomedical frameworks, constructed largely from the experiences of white, middle-class women, obscure the ways systemic racism, class inequities, and cultural expectations shape Black women’s perinatal mental health. These frameworks often fail to address the structural drivers of inequity. This article proposes a Black feminist theoretical framework that integrates intersectionality, critical race feminism, reproductive justice, and Sojourner Syndrome. Together, these frameworks reframe perinatal mental health as both an individual and structural phenomenon. Implications include the need for interdisciplinary collaboration, culturally responsive clinical assessments, and policies that affirm reproductive justice. Centering Black feminist thought offers a pathway toward more equitable and holistic approaches to maternal health.

  • Transgenderism and the rise of fascism: The location of disturbance and the Trickster archetype

    从群体焦虑与原型视角解读跨性别议题的政治化,提示临床中的社会语境。

In recent years, transgender identities have become a focal point in public discussions, often cynically used in campaigns across the political spectrum and more powerfully so as foregrounded by extreme right-wing ideology and the current rise of fascism. These discussions frequently address issues of societal norms and shifting cultural values. This tension, or ‘location of disturbance’, can be understood as a disruption of established social structures, a mirror reflecting collective anxieties and unresolved fears. Within these debates, terms like ‘social contagion’ have surfaced, particularly in reference to the rising visibility of transgender identities among younger people, reflecting a climate of societal uncertainty and anxiety. In group analytic terms, such tensions are expressions of unconscious group processes, where underlying fears of difference, change, and instability, via the emergence of a ‘fascist state of mind’, are projected onto those perceived as ‘other’. The group matrix—our shared social, cultural, and historical context—reveals both the overt and hidden conflicts within society, as well as the potential for collective transformation. The archetype of the ‘Trickster’, as the ‘uninvited guest’ familiar in Jungian thought, resonates deeply in this moment of flux. Trickster figures inhabit liminal spaces, embodying the potential for both creative renewal and destabilisation. In contemporary society, expressions of transgender identities may be seen, through a group analytic lens, as trickster phenomena—challenging binary thinking, disrupting norms, and fostering new ways of understanding identity and belonging. However, as with all archetypes, the Trickster can bring ambiguity, oscillating between being a catalyst for change and a source of confusion or conflict. By acknowledging these dynamics, we deepen our capacity to hold the complexity of these cultural shifts and engage with both the visible and unconscious processes shaping our collective experience.

  • Social Media Engagement and Cognitive Functions: Exploring Social Media, Mind Wandering, and Overexcitability in Higher Education

    以904名大学生样本关联社媒使用与注意力分散,为校园干预提供依据。

This study examined how social media is associated with mind wandering and emotional and intellectual overexcitability among college students. Understanding these relationships is important because excessive engagement with social media may influence attention, emotional regulation, and cognitive functioning during a critical stage of academic development. Data were collected from 904 students (260 females) using self-report measures of screen time, mind wandering, and overexcitability. The findings showed that students who spent more time on social media reported greater mental distraction, more frequent automatic thoughts, and higher levels of emotional and intellectual overexcitability. In addition, automatic thoughts and mental restlessness helped explain the relationship between social media use and psychological overexcitability. These results suggest that heavy social media use may contribute to difficulties in attentional control and emotional regulation among university students. Moreover, the study highlights the potential role of digital media environments in shaping cognitive and emotional experiences in young adults and contributes to a better understanding of the links among imagination, cognition, personality, and everyday technology use.

  • How to break a rule: Rules, rupture and judgment in group-analytic practice

    区分执行规则与伦理性破坏,为团体分析中的判断提供可操作的伦理框架。

Rules are indispensable to group-analytic practice, yet their meaning and use are never straightforward. This paper develops a group-analytic theory of rules and rule-breaking by distinguishing between containing and defensive forms of rule-following, and between acting out, diagnostic rupture, and ethical rupture — a category reserved for situations in which bending or breaking a rule recovers the ethical purpose for which the setting exists. Drawing on Foulkes, Behr, Nitsun, Hopper, Dalal, and Stacey, and bringing these into disciplined conversation with pragmatism, decolonial critique, and complex responsive process, the argument is that rules cannot be understood as neutral instruments or sacred forms. They are socially mediated, affectively charged, and historically sedimented practices whose value depends on what they make possible in the life of the group. A clinical vignette illustrates the typology in practice. To break a rule well is not to abandon the setting, but to remain answerable to the conditions of thought, recognition, and accountability the setting exists to protect.
