The impact of empathy fatigue on the work engagement of nurses in geriatric medicine: The mediating role of psychological resilience and the moderating effect of perceived social support

Objective: To investigate the impact of empathy fatigue on the work engagement of nurses in the geriatrics department, and to examine the mediating role of psychological resilience as well as the moderating effect of perceived social support. Methods: Using convenience sampling, 110 clinical nurses from the geriatrics department of two third-class grade A general hospitals were selected between January 2024 and December 2025.
